IDPH Celebrates International Adolescent Health Week
The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) is recognizing International Adolescent Health Week March 20-26, 2022, and encourages all Iowans to put the health, safety, and well-being of children first every day, but especially during this week. Despite the challenges young people face today, Iowa teens are thriving:The percentage of 11th grade students who reported having at least one drink of alcohol in the past 30 days decreased from 26.

Community Health Needs Assessment
Virginia Gay Hospital in collaboration with Benton County Public Health to conduct a survey assessing the top health and community needs of the people we serve. The following survey questions are based on six factors important for the health and well-being of everyone in your community. We are interested in your input.The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
ASAC Works to Lower Substance-use Related Deaths through Workplace Changes
Seventy-seven percent of individuals who use substances are employed either full or part-time, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In addition, employed individuals with a substance use disorder are three to four times more likely to have an accident on the job and five times more likely to file a workers’ compensation claim according to the Employee Assistance Society of North America.

Benton County Public Health Schedules First Sexual Health Screening Clinic
Benton County Public Health, in partnership with Linn County Public Health,
will begin providing free and confidential screening for HIV, hepatitis C, syphilis, gonorrhea, and
chlamydia. The first clinic will be held on Monday, March 28th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and will
continue on a quarterly schedule. No identification or insurance is needed to take part in this
service.

Blood Drive in Shellsburg April 13
The Shellsburg Lions Club hosted a blood drive on Feb 10 and the turnout was great.
